About the Porcupine
My name is Bo Soby Hansen. I was born on
the 18th. August 1966 and as far as I know, it was the only
natural dissaster to hit Denmark that year !
I am married to Lene (since '94). She is
on her way to becoming a nurse. We have no kids, but two cats;
Lunte and Misser ! We live outside Nykobing Falster in Demark in
a small, rented country house.
My formal education is actually as an adult educator, but I
currently work as I.T technician at a conference center. Most of
the work is concentrated on PC user support, a bit of teaching
and system maintenance. I also take care of the A.V department.
Unfortunately the owners are closing the place down by the end of
this year, so I will be looking for another job soon !
Back in 1996, Lene's mom won a trip for two to New York. It
was pretty obvious who got to as nr. two ! They had a great time
in the Big Apple and as so many others, they bought a bunch of
fake watches !
Lene brought me a very nice two tone TAG Heuer S/el ! "Cool
!" I thought ! But after a couple of days, I started
wondering what the real thing was like and what it might cost !
Big....very big...mistake ! I have always gone
for quality, so it was of course asking for trouble ! I took a
look at some TAG's by the one of the local watchmakers and I was
sold ! I guess the rest is pretty common; I found other brands
that attracted me more over time.
Since I couldn't afford the high end stuff (actually, I couldn't
quite come to terms with the prices either !), I went for a very
nice Candino Diver. A really nice watch with that looked a bit
like a very well known divers watch !:-) A Tissot PR 200 Aquatic
followed soon after and so on.
All this ended and a new chapter began, when I saw the Omega
Speedmaster Professional !
As I was still unable to afford a new Speedy, I started looking
for a second hand model. I found a vintage watchmaker and the
rest is history !:-)
The Internet ! I found the above mentioned vintage watchmaker via the internet, I found WatchNet and later Time Zone the same way ! I used to be proud of not being a total computer freak, spending countless hours in front of the screen, even though I worked with them on a daily basis. Hah ! Those were the days ! But with that said, I have found more information on the net than I could ever dream of. And much more important, I have found some fantastic freinds all over the world, who really mean much more to me than watches !
Thanks for reading
Bo
Oh by the way...why do I call myself The Horological
Porcupine? Well, my wife thinks my beard feels like a
porcupine and I am slightly interested in horology!:-)
